Garden Maintenance
Private horticultural care for established gardens
Based in Richmond, I provide specialist garden maintenance across Richmond and West London, with care tailored to the character and needs of each garden
The first 2 years after a garden is built are the most important. Gardens are dynamic and change throughout the seasons. Getting the plants properly established allows them to reach their full potential and nips problems in the bud.
A head gardener’s approach
With over 25 years of horticultural experience, my work is centred on long-term planting development. Attention is given to techniques, plant health and seasonal progression, with an understanding of how a garden should evolve rather than remain fixed.
Work is deliberate and restrained. The aim is always to maintain coherence while allowing planting to mature naturally.
What this involves
Care is tailored to the needs of each garden, typically including seasonal pruning, selective cutting back, and considered management of established planting.
Intervention is kept light and purposeful.
Over time
Some gardens benefit from regular seasonal visits, others from more occasional, focused work at key points in the year. The rhythm is dictated by the garden itself.
The intention is not to control the garden, but to sustain it — ensuring it remains settled, balanced and well resolved.
Judgement and restraint
Good maintenance is defined by judgement: knowing what to reduce, what to leave, and when to step in.
Handled correctly, a garden does not require correction. It simply continues to improve.
