This is a maintenance service for gardens that have already been designed and now require skilled, consistent care to hold structure and develop well over time.

The focus is on stewardship rather than alteration — maintaining clarity, balance and seasonal rhythm without unnecessary change.
 

A head gardener’s approach

With over 25 years of horticultural experience, my work is centred on long-term planting development. Attention is given to structure, plant health and seasonal progression, with an understanding of how a garden should evolve rather than remain fixed.
 

Work is deliberate and restrained. The aim is always to maintain coherence while allowing planting to mature naturally.

What this involves

Care is tailored to the needs of each garden, typically including seasonal pruning, selective cutting back, and considered management of established planting.

Intervention is kept light and purposeful.

Over time

Some gardens benefit from regular seasonal visits, others from more occasional, focused work at key points in the year. The rhythm is dictated by the garden itself.

The intention is not to control the garden, but to sustain it — ensuring it remains settled, balanced and well resolved.

Good maintenance is defined by judgement: knowing what to reduce, what to leave, and when to step in.

Handled correctly, a garden does not require correction. It simply continues to improve.
